Poetry Project 2018: Day 37

For those of you who've
felt the will drain from your cells,
For those of you who've
stared at the ceiling in public
to prevent tears from rolling down your cheeks,
For those of you who've
choked on your own sobs,
For those of you who've
hated that you couldn't help but embarrass yourself
by crying at the wrong time,
For those of you who've
thrown up because your sadness came out
with too much force,
For those of you who've
stood in front of the mirror trying
to fix your puffy red face,
For those of you who've
missed out on important moments or fun
because you couldn't bring yourself to leave your home
or even just your own head,
For those of you who've
thought there must be something wrong with you
to be so out of control,
For those of you who've
mastered the art of silent-sobbing
so your family, friends, kids or a stranger in the next bathroom stall
won't hear you,
For those of you who've
been fine for a while
only to have the wave of darkness
wash over you out of nowhere,
For those of you who've
been stuck in the depths for so long
you've forgotten the light,
For those of you who've
wondered why you seem to be grieving
when you haven't lost anyone or anything,
For those of you who've
felt empty and alone
and sure there's no one else where you are...

I'm here too.

But better yet,
sometimes I'm not, and
sometimes you won't be either,
you'll see...

One day the tide will turn
and go out; you'll be able to
surface into the world again,
and it will be beautiful.
